Henri Malartre Automobile Museum

The museum was established in 1960 by Henri Malartre (born December 1905, died November 12, 2005), based on his collection of vintage vehicles, preserved by him since the 1930s.

In 1972, on May 29, by a deliberation of the Lyon2 city council, the establishment became a Lyon city museum following the purchase of the entire collection, the park and all the buildings in return for a life annuity.

The Henri Malartre museum was the first automobile museum in France. It has some unique models, including a prototype 2CV from 1936.
His collection was preserved during the World War II, hidden in a barn in the Isère region, in the commune of Beaurepaire. In 1942, he joined the Resistance, where he transported weapons and printed matter until 1944, when he was arrested, tortured and deported.
Henri Malartre lies buried in Lyon's Guillotière cemetery.
