Liberation of Berjou

Point of explanation and route  pedestrian on the site of the bataille de Berjou.

The 214 Brigade has thus accomplished the essential part of the mission assigned to it crossing the Noireau and establishing its three battalions on the hillside in positions from which the final assault is to start, which is to be launched on three fronts at once, corresponding to the three objectives to be achieved.
On the right, the Worcesters are to take Berjou. In the center the Cornwalls must clear the Monts and Bruyères heights, which appear to be the HQ of all enemy forces in the sector. On the left, the Somersets must reach Le Canet then La Bijude and Le Hamel.

At 5:00 pm on August 16, the village is in the hands of the 43 Wessex Division. The capture of Berjou Ridge marks the end of the Battle of the Bocage, giving way to the pursuit of the enemy over open ground towards the Chambois pocket.
