Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery

The Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery , more commonly known as the Airborne Cemetery , is a Commonwealth War Graves Commission cemetery located in Oosterbeek , near Arnhem , in the Netherlands. It was established in 1945 and houses 1764 graves from the World War II, plus 4 later non-war graves. Special memorials of two staff members have also been interred elsewhere. Most of the men buried in the cemetery were Allied soldiers killed during the Battle of Arnhem, an Allied attempt to cross the Rhine in 1944, or during the liberation of the town.the following year. Men killed in these battles are still found in the surrounding area even in the 21st century. The number of people buried in the cemetery continues to grow.
